Total Life Wellness Part 3

Today I want to encourage you to live your total life in your spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Our spirit is what drives our being. Our spirit is our connectedness with God. Our spirit is where we find our emotional balance. Our spirit is what connects us to other people. It’s so important for us to have a harmonious balance in our spirit.

How do we have total life in our spirit? We start by nurturing our spirit on a daily basis. Too many times, we are caught up in the busyness of life. We don’t take the time to nurture our spirit. I encourage you to find time each day to nurture your spirit. When you have a well-balanced spirit, you will have more harmony in your life. Your life may not be perfect, but your reaction to what happens to you and around you will change, and you will notice your life is more peaceful, healthy, and happy.

I strongly believe in a daily practice of meditation to nurture your spirit. What is meditation? Meditation is defined as a broad variety of practices (much like the term sports) that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy (chi, ki, prana, etc.) and develop compassion,[3] love, patience, generosity, and forgiveness. A particularly ambitious form of meditation aims at effortlessly sustained single-pointed concentration[4] single-pointed analysis,[5] meant to enable its practitioner to enjoy an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any life activity.

We often (or should often) pray daily as a way of maintaining a relationship with God. Prayer is when we talk to God. Meditation is when God talks back to us. In an effort to meditate, I encourage you to find time in your schedule where you can focus on meditating. For me, mornings are the best time because I’m well rested, and my mind is clear. Find a place and time where you can meditate without interruption. Practice sitting quietly, closing your eyes, and releasing your mind from any thoughts at all. Focus on opening your mind to hear from God. If you want, you can play quiet meditating music to help relax you. There are a couple of great apps that help with meditation as well. Think of a place that relaxes you and picture in your mind, you being in that place. You can spend as little as 15 minutes or as long as an hour. It will take time if you are new to it.
There are so many benefits to nurturing your spirit through meditation and having your total life. I have found information on some benefits for you. Meditation…

Reduces anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.
Decreases muscle tension
Helps in chronic diseases like allergies, arthritis, etc.
Reduces Pre-menstrual Syndrome symptoms.
Helps in post-operative healing.
Helps with weight loss
Helps with focus & concentration
Increase creativity
Improved learning ability and memory.
Increased feelings of vitality and rejuvenation.
Increased emotional stability.
improved relationships
Mind ages at slower rate

There are other ways of nurturing your spirit as well to have a total life. Make a conscious effort to remove negative people from your life. Negative people drain your energy and block positive thinking. I always surround myself with people who believe the glass is half full. Life is too short and precious to live with negative energy in your life. Also, take the time to write in a gratitude journal. When you nurture your spirit by writing down and focusing on all of the things you are grateful for. You feel better in your spirit. Writing can be a great stress reliever for you as well. We can also do something for someone else. When we volunteer our time to do something for someone else, it helps us nurture our spirit with a feeling of helpfulness, gratitude, and gives us a sense of purpose. Nurturing our spirit can be as simple as lighting candles and taking a long hot bubble bath and listening to soothing music. There are so many things we can do each day to nurture our spirit to embrace total life. Just do what works for you!
